Born: June 11, 1883, Henderson, North Carolina, United States

• Died: January 11, 1961, Greensboro, North Carolina, United States

• Education: Wellesley College

  • Charlotte Hawkins Brown was born in Henderson, North Carolina, on June 11, 1883, to Caroline Frances and an estranged father. The granddaughter of former slaves, she was born in a time where large numbers of African Americans were moving north. She moved to Cambridge, Massachusetts, at a young age, where she was raised and educated.
  • Brown attracted national attention for her efforts, lecturing frequently at colleges around the country and receiving several honorary degrees. In 1941 she published The Correct Thing To Do--To Say--To Wear, committing many of her educational philosophies and maxims in print. She continued to run the school until her retirement in 1952.
  • In addition to her work at the Palmer Institute, Brown was active in national efforts to improve opportunities for African Americans, including the Southern Commission for Interracial Cooperation and the Negro Business League. She was the first African American woman named to the national board of the YWCA. She was an honorary member of Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority.

Charlotte Hawkins Brown was the aunt of Maria Cole, wife of Nat King Cole.

Love sharing our history ~ Betty A. Burnett

Setting the Stage for Black or African American History 2-1-2023

• Today is the beginning of a month that has been set aside for “Black History.” Before proceeding further, whatever name that is used for us (Negro, Colored, Black), the most important thing is to know who we are ourselves.

• It has been proven over and over again that God has His hands on us regardless of how so many of our people have been so badly treated. For me as a born-again believer, instead of remaining angry and having resentment because of all the evil that still goes on, I pray.

• Our people have not only been lynched, killed in other ways, tortured, falsely accused, humiliated, and so much more. Some evil people went as far as stealing their inventions. In other words, some others took credit for what our people did. God is still using many of our people regardless of the way countless of them were treated.

• As we walk through history, let’s not forget those who went through hard trials and tribulations, how they suffered. Despite of the harsh treatments, I believe God’s grace sustained them with strength to endure.

• I am only writing about some of our heroes, although all of them are important. Hopefully, this will perk up your interest in doing some personal research about our heritage.

 Day One

• On February 1, 1960, four African American students began a sit-in protest at a Woolworth’s whites-only lunch counter in Greensboro, North Carolina, where they had been refused service.

• The Greensboro Four (as they would soon be known) were Joseph McNeil, Franklin McCain, Ezell Blair Jr., and David Richmond, all young black students at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University in their freshman year who often met in their dorm rooms to discuss what they could do to stand against segregation. They were inspired by Martin Luther King Jr. and his practice of nonviolent protest, and specifically wanted to change the segregation policies of F. W. Woolworth Company in Greensboro, North Carolina.

• The civil rights protests didn't end with a cup of coffee at Woolworth's. In 1963, another series of demonstrations in Greensboro—led by an A&T student named Jesse Jackson—targeted movie theaters and cafeterias, as well as discriminatory hiring practices.

• That same year, police in Birmingham, Alabama, responded violently to marches and sit-ins led by King. In both Greensboro and Birmingham, the jails overflowed with Black students. On June 11, 1963,

  • President John F. Kennedy, in a live television address from the Oval Office, called for legislation that would give "all Americans the right to be served in facilities which are open to the public—hotels, restaurants, theaters, retail stores, and similar establishments. Woolworth Store at 132 South Elm Street in Greensboro, North Carolina. It has become a symbolic place for fighting against segregation.

“Ways to Worship God” 1-31-2023

• After sharing about a purpose driven life, or what I call a life driven with purpose, ways of worship came to my mind. So many people think that songs, praying and lifting up holy hands, dancing or bowing down are the main way of worshipping God.

• Oh come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the Lord, our Maker! (Psalm 95:6). Sing a new song for He has done marvelous things (Psalm 98:1). Pray and lift up holy hands (1 Timothy 2:8). David danced before the Lord (2 Samuel 16:14). This was an act of praise and worship.

Below are just some of the additional ways to worship God, which makes sense, since our lifestyle is to one of worship. In other words, everything we do should be a way of worshipping God.

• This is the foundation of true worship. But the hour is coming, and now is when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and in truth (John 4:23-24).

• We are to be living sacrifices to God. I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God (Romans 12:1-2).

• What about our jobs? Bondservants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh, not with eyeservice, as men-pleasers, but in sincerity of heart, fearing God. And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ. But he who does wrong will be repaid for what he has done, and there is no partiality (Colossians 3:22-25).

• How about those God has placed over you in ministry. Obey those who rule over you, and be submissive, for they watch out for your souls, as those who must give you an account. Let them do so with joy and not with grief, for that would be unprofitable for you (Hebrews 13:17).

• What about governmental officials? Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God. Therefore, whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves (Romans 13:1-2). I am pausing to say, obey as long as what any rulers or authorities do that is in conjunction with God’s Word.

• Are you treating your neighbors right? If you love God, you will love your neighbor (Mark 12:30-31).

• I know you give your tithes and offerings. Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, so that there may be food in My house, and try Me now in this, says the LORD of hosts. If I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you such blessing that there will not be room enough to receive it. Want to worship our King Jesus? Read Hebrews, chapter 7.

Obedience is the key to worship which comes from His Word. Obeying God will show how much we love Him (John 14:15) and that also is indicative of us worshipping Him in spirit and truth. On the other hand, it could be lip service. They honor Me, but their hearts are from Me (Matthew 12:8-9).

What is a Purpose Driven Life? 1-30-2023

• Because many born-again believers do not understand their purpose, I am sharing what I know. It was 2002, when the “Purpose Driven Life” book was published by Rick Warren. I was introduced to the book at a Saturday night “Cell Group” in Pennsauken, New Jersey.

• I had been saved about twenty years, but that book was an eye-opener. My spiritual life took on a different meaning.

• Although I loved the Lord, my maturity level was not what I thought it was. My gift was evident but I was immature. Someone may say, you were saved twenty years and were still immature. As I matured, it was obvious that some people who had been saved more years than me, were babes in Christ.

• The “Purpose Driven Life” book was the greatest challenge in my spiritual life at that point. And that experience was life-changing for me.

• When I saw the bottom part of the cover of the book: What on earth are you here for? And further reading would say it is all about God and not about you. That just blew my roof off. In continuing to read the book it revealed how our purpose is to worship God, which is a lifestyle. I was flabbergasted!

• My eyes came open to how selfish I had been, even though I loved to preach and share in other ways. Also, there was a journal that could be used with the book.

• I went through the book about four times; in a Bible study, with other saints, a few times it was one to one with another person. We were able to challenge each other and that really opened our eyes to what and who we were all about.

• You will not understand your purpose unless you are taught the Word of God. When one really understands that is all about God and not about them, then they will be driven to fulfill their purpose. In other words, you will become so passionate about worshipping God that everything else will be on the back burner.

Let’s talk about our purpose and when did it happen when it comes to God’s perspective, He chose us. Before I formed you in the womb I knew you. Before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations (Jeremiah 1:5).

  • For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to conform to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover, whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified (Romans 8:29-30).

• The nation of Israel was aside for His purpose, they were His and the principle is the same with us (Deuteronomy 14:2). God had and He still has a plan for us. For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope (Jeremiah 29:11).

• If you truly desire to give God the glory, let your lifestyle be one of worship, and then you will be passionate about your purpose! You will be driven to fulfill your purpose!

Striving more and more to fulfill my purpose so I can hear Jesus say “Well Done”

Can’t Find no Peace? Trouble Everywhere! 1-29-2023

Good morning family and friends!

• Many times, I have no intention of posting a message, but I got the “Can’t Help It”, or "I can't help myself", "It's my passion." On that note this is what was given to me.

• Some may say “Where is the peace?” or everything around us is chaotic; senseless killings all over the land, and everything evil that can be thought of is happening. Sin is definitely on the rise like never before.

• Do I allow that to rob me of my peace? Oh no! Although I am concerned about these evil things that are going on all around me, I still experience the peace that Jesus gives, and so can you.

This is what the Word of God says about Peace

• These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world (John 16:33).

• Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid (John 14:27).

• And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7).

• Finally, brothers [sisters], whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things (Philippians 4:8), regardless of the chaos and remember this:

• And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body: and be thankful (Colossians 3:15).

Grace and peace, my brothers, and sisters!

Good Morning; Hey Ya’ll; Howdy do!

• I hope all my Facebook family and friends are doing well. There is no special message today; I just want to say this to all of you who read my messages, how much I appreciate your readership, which is so encouraging and it motivates me to continue pressing forward with what God has assigned me to do.

• You not only let me know how blessed the messages are, but you also compliment me on my photos, my travels and so on. It is awesome to have family and friends who want to see me do well, and again, I am very appreciative. Because of you my ministry has broadened and I am grateful (1 Chronicles 4:10).

• Ever since I transitioned to New Jersey, God has been and He is doing some great and mighty things in my life. That’s why I know without a shadow of doubt, this is God’s will for me. My life has been so enriched!

• But the devil does not like it when he sees peoples’ lives being changed because of the Word of God. With that being said, the enemy is on the prowl, seeking whom he may devour (1 Peter 5:8). Paul penned it like this: For a great and effective door has opened for me and there are many adversaries (1 Corinthians 16:9).

• A note of advice for ya’ll; when you are doing the will of God the devil will use anything and anybody he can to stop you from fulfilling your purpose. He came to kill , steal, and destroy (John 10:10).

• When Paul wrote about spiritual warfare and who our real enemy is (Ephesians 6:10-17), he also ended up asking for prayer for himself and all the saints that each of us will persevere and that we will boldly make known the Gospel of Jesus Christ (Ephesians 6:18-24).

• As I conclude with this message, I desire your prayers, and let’s pray for each other because prayer changes things.

Have an enjoyable Saturday!

Are You Compromising and Doing the Same Things Sinners Do? 1-27-2023

• This challenge is for all those who profess to be born-again. Yesterday’s message was about the sign of the time and how we are to shine bright in a cold, dark and cruel world.

• People who compromise are unstable, doubleminded and they fall for anything and still think they are pleasing to God. It is like a Christian game that is accepted among many of those who profess to be born-again. That is considered falling by the way-side and it is not acceptable to God.

• Hanging around sinners – Come out from among them (2 Corinthians 6:14-17). As they say: “Birds of a feather flock together”

• Not sharing the Gospel affectively because people see the hypocrisy. Where is the light (Matthew 5:16)?

• How can a born-again believer be in harmony with an unbeliever? Can two walk together unless they agree (Amos 3:3)?

• Although God gave us all things to richly enjoy (1 Timothy 6:17), there are boundaries.

• Years ago, the Lord led me to write a play titled “Take Me Back; Things Sho Ain’t the Way They Used to Be”. The song “Jesus Will Pick You Up” was rendered at the end to let others know how Jesus will pick us up when we fall.

Lyrics to the Song

If he has to reach (way down)

Jesus (Jesus will pick you up) - 4 times

Jesus (Jesus will pick you up if he has to reach way down

If you go out and party all night long

Singing in the choir on Sunday morning

Like you done nothing wrong

If you can't sing the way you used to

It's because you're doing the same thing that sinners do

If you're in the pulpit preaching so bold

Preaching for the money and not caring for the soul

If you cn't preach my brother the way you use to

It's 'cause you're doing the same thing that sinners do

If your hair do and your fancy clothes won't let you say amen

If your diamond rings and your designer shoes

won't let you pat your feet and clap your hands

If you can't praise Him the way you use to

It's 'cause you're doing the same thing that sinners do

If you have to reach (way down) [repeat and ad lib]

Jesus will pick you up [repeat and ad lib]

• With that being so, even if it is true that Jesus will pick you up (Psalm 37:23-24), that is not an excuse to keep on falling into that same old trap. The more you fall, the harder it is to get up! Wallowing in the mud can become an addictive habit just as cigarettes or any other addictions.

• Why does God want us to live holy? Because He has a purpose for our lives that will affect us throughout eternity. I am planning to share God’s purpose for our lives soon.

Signs of the Time – Is Darkness Prevailing? 1-26-2023

• The world is waiting for things to get normal, but the children of God are waiting for Jesus. In this world some things will never get better. In fact, Jesus even said how things will get worse. For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.

• And you shall hear of wars and rumors of wars: see that you are not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences [diseases], and earthquakes, in divers’ places. All these are the beginning of sorrows (Matthew 24:5-8).

• When the Covid-19 Pandemic affected the entire world, many people were praying and asking God to stop the disease (pestilence). Please saints of God, don’t ask God to stop something that is going to happen. Jesus said these things must happen.

• Why? When Adam disobeyed God, he handed his rulership over to Satan, who is the god of this world. Whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them (2 Corinthians 4:4).

• As time progresses, so does sin. Since that is true, we have been given the responsibility and the ability to advance the kingdom of God. That is, the brighter we shine, the evil forces must back away, because they cannot stand light. And when the world sees the light in us, they will be drawn to Christ.

• Notice in some movies, that the demons do not come out in the daylight, but they come out when it is dark. Most of the time thieves would break into places and steal at night. That stands to reason because evil loves darkness and good loves light.

• However, with sin more on the rise, evil forces are using their onslaughts more frequently in the daytime. Therefore, we must shine (stand-out) in this cold, cruel, and evil world.

• We are to imitate Christ and do what Jesus did when He came into this dark world (John 1:5, 9, 10). He is the Light of the world (John 8:12.) I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness.

• He brought light to us because we were once in darkness. Now that Jesus is no longer in the world, we are the light (Matthew 5: 16).

• For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth), finding out what is acceptable to the Lord. And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them.

• For it is shameful even to speak of those things which are done by them in secret. But all things that are exposed are made manifest by the light, for whatever makes manifest is light (Ephesians 5:8-13). The more we hate darkness (evil), the more we will shine!

• Shine, brothers, and sisters, shine so bright! Do not get caught up with the ways of the world. If you want to please God, and have the abiding peace and fulness of joy, walk in the light.

Four Aspects of Life 1-25-2023

1) Life is short – Since life is but a vapor (James 4:14) teach us to number our days (Psalm 90:12).

2) Death is sure - It is appointed to every person once to die and after that the judgment (Hebrews 9:27). Why? Because

3) Sin is the cause – Adam disobeyed God, and he caused sin to come upon the entire human race (Genesis 2:17, Romans 5:12).

4) Christ is the Answer – Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life, no one comes to the Father but by Him (John 14:6); neither is there salvation in any other name under heaven given among men whereby we must be saved (Acts 4:12); Christ is the only Mediator between God and man (1 Timothy 2:5-6), But thanks be to God…..

Our relationship with Christ gives us hope that after our lives are over, we have the assurance of being in the presence of God immediately (2 Corinthians 5:8). When we leave these earthly bodies, we are precious in the sight of the Lord (Psalm 116:15).

• We rest from our labors and our works follow us (Revelation 14:13). Once all the saints are in heaven, we will be judged (2 Corinthians 5:10); what we did on earth will determine our rulership (our works), and we will be rewarded for our good works.

• We have the blessed hope that Christ is coming soon to take us to be with Him. But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus.

• For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep. For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God.

• And the dead in Christ will rise first, then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so, we shall always be with the Lord (1 Thessalonians 4:13-17).

• That’s the blessed hope that the children of God have. For those who are not saved, you can also have eternal life if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God raised Christ from the dead, you will have a relationship with Christ (Romans 10:9-10).

Addition to Burnett Ministries 1-23-2022

• It has been two years since the Lord added another teacher (Romans 12:7) to Burnett Ministries’ conference call Bible study. We met about twenty years ago; he and his wife were dedicated to all aspects of teaching in the church where we were members.

• I was associate minister and leader of the evangelism class, and Minister Poole and I also shared on alternate days in a “Need to feed Ministry” that served the homeless breakfast and the Word of God.

• When I was no longer a member/minister in the church the Poole's and I were no longer serving together.

• It was years later (approximately two years ago), God reconnected us and our relationship was rekindled. Prior to us being reconnected, it was revealed in a dream that another man would be involved in the ministry.

• He also knew once he joined the Bible study that God had placed him in the ministry for a specific reason. It was confirmed and he accepted the assignment. Additionally, the Poole's, another teacher (five-fold ministry office) and I do fine tuning another day of the week. We are diggers of the Word of God- digging deep!

• Not only has Minister Randy Poole been an asset as a teacher, but he also gets eyecatcher images that can be used for the ministry. He feels as though those images help me to create messages. I feel that the Lord has added something new that will enhance the messages.

• I believe in acknowledging those who support Burnett Ministries when it is necessary to others to be aware of the people God has added to the ministry, just as the Lord added to the church those who would be saved (Acts 2:47).

• It is impossible for me to run the ministry alone, and I accept those whom God send to me in the business and spiritual aspect.

• Both Minister Poole and I agree that the body of Christ has many members (1 Corinthians 12:12-14) and it takes each part of the body to make it complete. He knows what God has called him to do, and since we have different abilities, one compliments the other.

• I call him minister because all of God’s children are ministers. FYI- one does not have to be ordained by man to be a minister. If the truth were to be told, Randy Poole is a minister indeed, and his call as a teacher is evident.

• My takeaway is, we don’t know who God is going to place in our lives or bring someone back into our lives. That is the reason we should treat our brothers and sisters right. The very one that you do wrong just might be the one you will need.

• In other words, don’t burn bridges with others. Idiom - The act of unpleasant and permanently ending relations with another person, or an organization.

Blessings ~ Betty A. Burnett

And the Winner was, the Philadelphia Eagles!

• Those boys were really hot last night! There is a saying “When you’re hot, you’re hot, and when you’re not, you’re not” I wrote yesterday that I was not mad at nobody and may the best team win, yet I am so happy that my team won.

• The proof was in the pudding when the Eagles did a giant slaying (not my words). However, I say it like this. “The Eagles slew the giants like David slaughtered Goliath (a giant)”

• Taking it to another level, the Eagles did just what their name is, they soared like eagles do. They flew higher and higher. What a perfect name for a great team.

• Let’s get to the spiritual part, which is the best to me. We too can soar like an eagle in our faith walk. Patience is a major key to how high one can soar. In comparing the natural and spiritual, the natural has to be trained in order to soar (to fly or rise high in the air) and that takes time (patience).

• The spiritual principle for God’s children is be trained in His Word which brings about maturity in order to go to a higher elevation in our walk with Christ.

• It must be understood that no one, whether natural or spiritual, can advance to higher heights unless there is training. My brothers and sisters, I always try to see a spiritual principle, even in the natural realm.

• Do you want to be a winner? Why not go through some spiritual training so you can soar like an eagle.

But those who wait on the LORD

Shall renew their strength;

They shall mount up with wings like eagles,

They shall run and not be weary,

They shall walk and not faint (Isaiah 40:31)

May the Best Team Win! 1-21-2023

• Who is the best? We will find out tonight during the playoffs between the Philadelphia Eagles and the New York Giants.

• Tonight, will certainly tell the story. If my team (the Eagles-birds) don’t win, they are still my team. And, if your team wins, I ain’t gonna be mad at nobody. Life itself is like a ball game, you win some and you lose some. What happens when there is a loss? We just pick ourselves up, learn from our mistakes and keep on moving.

• So, tonight will tell the story. Whoever wins, I will consider them the best.

Play hard Eagles and Giants and give it your best shot.

• To all my fellow New York Giants fans, a team does not change our love for each other, no arguing, fighting, shooting, or gambling. Let’s conclude that the best team won!

• On that note, we all should desire to conquer whatever this life brings. Let’s strive to make touchdowns that occurs when the team with possession of the ball crosses the opponent’s goal line. We have some opponents (demons) that are trying every which way they can to defeat us.

Striving to reach my goal ~ Betty A. Burnett

Is it Your Plan or God’s Plan? 1-20-2023

• The catchy phrase yesterday was, “Do you know His plan for your life?” The phrase was to capture the readers’ attention.

• I am so passionate about people learning what God’s plan is for their lives, that I am willing to whatever possible to help whoever is willing to learn how to fulfill their purpose.

• When the Spirit of God led me to ask some people to share their testimony/story, it was to encourage others and to motivate them to pursue their destiny, because God has a plan for everybody.

• You read TaSheka and Jireh’s testimonies/stories and their experiences were a part of God’s plan. From those two awesome testimonies, I felt inspired to write this message today. The scripture in Jeremiah 29:11 says this: For I know the thoughts [plans] that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and hope.

• God’s thoughts (plans) for us are always good; He never thinks bad of His children. God gives us hope for whatever the future holds, even when circumstances do not seem favorable. Why? Because, regardless of what we go through, it works out for our good and the good of others.

• What do I mean by saying it works also works for the good of others? When TaSheka, Jireh and others shared their testimonies, it was encouragement to those God had ordained to be reached. It may have given others hope and motivated them to get up and move forward with hopeful pursuits that would have good success.

These are some don’ts that will help you to move forward.

• Don’t use an excuse like Moses did when God called him. His excuse was a speech impediment. Then Moses said to the LORD, O my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither before nor since You have spoken to Your servant; but I am slow of speech and slow of tongue (Exodus 4:10).

• Don’t use the excuse like Jeremiah did. Then the Word of the Lord came to me saying, before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations. Then said I: Ah, Lord GOD!

• Behold, I cannot speak, for I am a youth. But the LORD said to me: Do not say, I am a youth. For you shall go to all whom I send you, and whatever I command you, you shall speak (Jeremiah 1:4-7).

• Do follow Samuel’s example: Now the LORD came and stood and called as at other times, Samuel! Samuel! And Samuel answered, Speak, for Your servant hears (1 Samuel 3:10). My motto comes from Isaiah: Here I am, end me Lord, I’ll go (Isaiah 6:8).

• Every child of God has a ministry and it’s up to each person to find out what aspect of ministry they’ve been called into (Romans 12:7). If you don’t know, God has people who are equipped to help you grow into maturity and help discover what you’ve been called to do (Ephesians 4:11).

• Your experience is also a part of God’s plan for your life. How are you going to help someone else if you haven’t gone through something?

• Please don’t say “Only what you do for Christ will last” That is not true. “Only what Christ tells you to do will last,” because whatever He says, that is God’s plan for your life.

Jireh’s Testimony/Story – God Had a Plan! 1-19-2023

• Jireh not only is my third generation niece, but she is also my goddaughter. Therefore, it gives me great pleasure to share her short story which will have a part two if it is the Lord’s will.

• On December 16, 2022,  I finished nursing school by the grace of God. My life hasn’t been the easiest. I’ve faced multiple obstacles that hindered me from being successful.

• I told myself that it was time to get it together. I paid off fines that kept me from driving , took my GED and enrolled into nursing school. This wasn’t going to be easy but with constant prayers from my family and GOD I was able to complete the program!

• What the readers can take away from my experience. Regardless of how long it takes and all the setbacks, don’t give up.

• I am grateful to all of the people who encouraged and supported me, including Mom-mom Joannie, Auntie Markeeta, Aunt Tiwanda, and Aunt Betty.

• Even when things were said like “Jireh keeps saying she is going to be a nurse, when is it going to happen” Or “Jireh’s just talking, she is not going to be a nurse”.

Prove to the nay-sayers that you can and will make it with God’s help.

• What the readers can take away from my experience. Regardless of how long it takes and all the setbacks, and all the negativity, don’t give up!

Aunt Betty's closure

• I truly thank the Lord for Jireh’s success and for all the prayers that were going up on her behalf. A shout-out to Thelma, Kelly, Shelly and Susan, my prayer “Warrior” sisters in North Carolina for your constant prayers and having the faith that God would do it! And He did because our God had a plan for Jireh!

TaSheka Oglesby’s Story 1-18-2023

I met TaSheka when she was about ten years old and watched her grow up into an awesome young lady. I am proud to have such a respectful person in my life who loves the Lord and is not ashamed to tell of His goodness. Meet TaSheka!

My Story

November 11, 2017, I was diagnosed with medullablastoma, a brain cancer.

Eight days shy of my second anniversary, a terrible headache sent me to the hospital.

I knew what I had to do. I had to make a deposit. I began to praise God for what He was doing and what He was about to do.

Due to my medical history, doctors ordered an MRI, which showed some type of mass. God created us to worship Him, at that very moment, it was not about cancer but about honoring my Creator. My inner worship erupted and praise overflowed!!!

A biopsy was performed to see if this mass was cancerous. As doctors waited on the results, my prayer became, "God, allow these results to be non cancer because I want people to see Your healing power." A few days later, the results were back. Because I had the expecting faith, I already knew the untold results.

From the mouth of the doctor to my ears she says, the results are not cancerous. She continued to say, I'm not sure why it's not cancer because your scan looks cancerous.”

It was in that moment I knew God was blowing her mind. Until the doctor and her staff could figure what was happening, they requested me to stay a few more days in the hospital.

Four days later, the same doctor visited me to chat. She says, "A lot of your healing comes from your faith. Keep believing".

I knew that I was excited she was in a place to receive that.

As a believer and follower of Jesus Christ, it is my responsibility to share who my Savior is. It is my responsibility to encourage all God is living, He is powerful, and forever faithful. I'm sharing my story because I want to encourage all to know Jesus as your Redeemer and to trust Him when you do not understand.

For when you're going through affliction, remember this:

"And not only that, but we also rejoice in our afflictions, because we know that affliction produces endurance, endurance produces proven character, and proven character produces hope. This hope will not disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us." Romans 5:3-5

“Help Me Lift Jesus Up” 1-17-2023

As I was lying in bed early this morning, this is what came to me “Help me lift Jesus up”.

The song was sung back in the day and some of the lyrics continue with:

• “I want somebody to help me lift Jesus up. He said if I be lifted up from the earth, I’ll draw all me unto Me”, then it continues with “Will you help me lift Jesus up?”

• My brothers and sisters, I need somebody to help me lift Jesus up. This is my appeal today; will you help me lift Jesus up?

• Jesus said: And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all peoples to Myself (John 12:32).

This is how Jesus wants us to lift Him up

• We are living epistles (letters) that people read. You are our epistle written in our hearts, known, and read by all men;  clearly you are an epistle of Christ, ministered by us, written not with ink but by the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of flesh, that is, of the heart. (2 Corinthians 3:2-3). People are watching us and we may be the only Bible they will read.

• Our lights should so shine. You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men.

• You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven (Matthew 5:13-16).

• We must walk the walk as well as talk the talk. Therefore, we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life (Romans 6:4).

• Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so (James 3:10).

• For the next two days, Lord willing, testimonies will be shared by a couple of young ladies that I am overjoyed for them to share what God has done in their lives.

Let’s Celebrate Wonderful Memories of Martin Luther King Jr - Lest We Forget! 1-16-2023

• As we celebrate the legacy of a great man, let’s not forget to follow his example as he modeled Christ. Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ (1 Corinthians 11:1).

• Thank God for men and women like Martin Luther King Jr and all the other forerunners who put their lives on the line so we could be free. Although the world is in an uproar and evil is everywhere, and some are saying there is no peace.

• There is only way one can have peace in this world system and that is the inner peace that comes from and through Christ. Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid (John 14:27).

• However, Jesus did bring peace and so did Martin Luther King Jr advocate peace through non-violence regardless of how he was persecuted and all manner of evil was spoken against him falsely (Matthew 5:10-12).

• Let’s not forget that whatever is going on around us with things getting worse, we are still called to be peacemakers (Matthew 5:9).

• Let’s not forget to celebrate the man Martin Luther King Jr who was ordained by God to make a difference.

• Let’s not forget to allow God to use us to make a difference (Matthew 5:16). We are to model Christ our Savior. Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation (2 Corinthians 5:18).

• In other words, we were alienated (estranged) from God and He sent Christ to reconcile (restore) us to Him.

Let us always remember a great man of God – Martin Luther King Jr!

Double Events 1-15-2023

• It has been non-stop since I left Greensboro; thank God for the well-rested train ride. Friday was a day of unpacking, doing laundry, and with the help of a neighbor the decorations were taken off the tree.

• Saturday, we headed to Mt. Laurel for a Martin Luther King event, and it was such a blessing The AKA hostesses were undesigningly accommodating. Even though they were decked out in their fancy clothes they didn’t treat us any differently because of our uniforms. That’s what I consider not showing respect for people.

• The Vendors were also very friendly; the entire atmosphere was so warm and inviting, even down to the keynote speaker and the servers.

• From Mt. Laurel we traveled to Pennsauken to my niece and her family’s house to help them celebrate her mother, Joannie’s birthday which was on the thirteenth. That setting was even greater than the first one because it was with family.

• Many people know that I am about the bond of a family unit, and it gives me great joy to be with all of them. I need to throw this in. One can only be close to those who allow them to be. When you do your best to love and support family, that is all that is required; you cannot force yourself on anyone and you are only responsible for your own actions.

Not only that, but Jesus said this

• Do not think that I came to bring peace to earth. I did not come to bring peace but a sword. For I have come to set a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; and ‘a man’s enemies will be those of his own household (Matthew 10:34-36).

• I believe these verses mean when it comes to those who are unbelievers in a family, there will be friction because two cannot not walk together unless they are in agreement (Amos 3:3), and what fellowship does darkness have with light (2 Corinthians 6:14-16).

• To take it even further, there are some family members who profess to be born-again, and they are not of one accord. These kinds of people are babes in Christ (1 Corinthians 3:1-3).

• So, when you find yourself not being loved and you are doing all you can to help bring families close together, do not fret because these things are going to happen. That’s the Word!

Have an amazing day in the Lord, and don’t forget to love your family. Charity (LOVE) begins at home and spreads abroad.

The Love of God is Beyond Our Understanding! 1-13-2022

Good morning family and friends wherever you are!

  • Thanks be to the Lord God Almighty for revealing Himself in such and awesome way through so many of you; your prayers, well wishes, fellowship, and pouring your hearts out to me in various ways.

  • The way God’s Love was expressed through each of you was mind-boggling. I thank Him for reconnecting me with people whom I thought would never be in my life again. He is the God of restoration, and I certainly am a living witness of what He can do. My visit to Greensboro was one that will never be forgotten.
  • There is a saying “Absence makes the heart grow fonder”. I am saying “Absence made the Love grow stronger and deeper.”

  • Yesterday, some others that are close to me showed up at the train station before my departure. One spiritual daughter of mine even brought me a Chic fila breakfast. I was blown away that my leaving was going to be one that would be “Unforgettable”

While writing, these are the verse that came to me

Proverbs 3:1-6

My son [daughter] do not forget My law,

But let your heart keep my commands;

For length of days and long life

And peace they will add to you.

Let not mercy and truth forsake you;

Bind them around your neck,

Write them on the tablet of your heart,

And so find favor and high esteem

In the sight of God and man.

Trust in the LORD with all your heart,

And lean not on your own understanding;

In all your ways acknowledge Him,

And He shall direct your paths.

What can be taken away from this message?

  • When we are in the will of God, nothing can stop the blessings from overflowing in our lives. God will cause people to bless us that we never dreamed of. All we need to do is trust God instead of getting in His way. He ordained me to be in Greensboro and things happened that were beyond my comprehension.

Grateful ~ Betty A. Burnett

So Unsearchable are His Ways!

• The word “Unbelievable” used to be a fad and I still say it today when something amazing happens. I thought the messages about God has a plan for your life was over and decided to go forward with whatever the Spirit would lead me to write.

And then, my Niece showed up at my place with a card:

Higher than the sky…

Deeper than the ocean…

The hairs on your head are numbered…

The care in your heart are too.

You have a purpose

And the is a good plan for you.

Scripture references – (Psalm 139:14, Jeremiah 29:11, Matthew 10:30)

• In addition to her card, she had put some “money honey” in it. The money was an extra blessing, but the words on the card were superior!

• The night before, two other nieces showed up with gifts galore, including some awesome jewelry of which some accentuated a beautiful shawl another niece blessed me with Christmas day, and they had some “money honey”

• Back to the words in the other niece’s card “MORE THAN YOU’VE EVEN DARED TO DREAM”, struck a chord with me, especially the word “Dream” since we call ourselves the “Dream Team” of “Warrior Keychains”

• I am flipping back and forth, there is also a little humor in the card that definitely strikes another chord - I got tickled at this sentence - the hairs on your head are numbered. I laughed and told my niece that no hairs were on my head. Yet there is hair that still grows, just keep my head shaved due to alopecia (the partial or complete absence of hair from areas of the body where it normally grows).

• In fact, I was so busy concentrating on the hairs on my head being numbered, it didn’t register to me about “You have a purpose and there is a good plan for your life.”

• After dropping my niece off at the Speedline, I went back home and read the card again; that’s when the purpose and plan jumped out at me.

• By now, I hope you see the meaning of this message and how God’s ways are so unsearchable! Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and His ways past finding out! (Romans 11:33)

• This was my experience, but I’m sharing to encourage, motivate and give you hope, because God does not have respect of persons (Romans 2:11). 2022 was an awesome year of God’s abundance! I am expecting even greater spiritual and material blessings this year (Matthew 6:33). 2023 has already started off with a Bang!

Dream on and don’t stop with the dream, activate your faith, and move forward in the year of 2023!

God Has a Plan for Your Life 1-3-2023

• I was reading about a 365-day devotional that is published by In Touch Ministries (Charles Stanley). The title is “God’s Will in 2023” – Rest in the truth that He has a purpose for your life.

• This is in line with what I have been writing about. For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope (Jeremiah 29:11).

• Last week the message was shared -“ask and it shall be given, seek and you will find, knock and the door shall be opened (Matthew 7:7).

In addition to that scripture, this is a directive in finding out what God’s plan is for you, if you don’t know or may not be sure.

• Call unto Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know (Jeremiah 33:3).

• My voice You shall hear in the morning, O LORD; In the morning I will direct my prayer to You, and I will look up (Psalm 5:3).

• Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, this is the way, walk in it, whenever you turn to the right hand or whenever you turn to the left (Isaiah 30:21).

• The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD, and He delights in his way (Psalm 37:23).

• Order my steps in Your Word: and let not any iniquity have dominion over me. (Psalm 119:133). The Holy Spirit brings the Word of God that we have studied to our remembrance.

• But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you (John 14:26).

• Now in the morning, having risen a long while before daylight, He went out and departed to a solitary [a place alone with His Father] place; and there He prayed (Mark 1:35). If Jesus had to pray, what about you and me?

• And you will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart (Jeremiah 29:13).

Let’s start 2023 committing to pray and seek God’s will and see what His plan is for us.

Happy New Year 2023

Are you making a New Year’s resolution?

• Let’s look at the definition: A firm decision to do or not to do something. This is not a logical thing to do. When we decide what we are going to do, more than likely it won’t work. However, if we have the right motives and purpose in our hearts to do the Lord’s will, the Spirit of God helps us.

Example of making a New Year’s resolution

• Many people say that they are going to stop old habits, like smoking, drinking and so on. I can tell you from experience that more than likely, it does not have permanent effects.

• Since God has a plan (Jeremiah 29:11) and His way is always best (Isaiah 55:8-9), why not do it His way, instead of “This is my life and I will do what I want to with it” Wrong! Your life is not in your hands; it is because of God that all of us live and move and have our being (Acts 17:28). Who do you think owns you? (Psalm 24:1)

• Don’t you think it would be better to cooperate with God and receive the best blessings?

How about having a new mindset in 2023 and do it God’s way instead of making a new year’s resolution.

The Word of God

I beseech [urge] you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God (Romans 12:1-2).

We are to walk in (practice) holiness, no more dead animals on the altar like it was in the Old Testament, we are the living sacrifices, and we are on the altar as sacrifices when we study, pray, fellowship with other saints, and remain accountable to someone. This is within reason because God would not tell us to do something we were not capable of doing.

We are not to comply with rules, standards, or laws of the world’s system, but we are to be transformed – continually being changed. We were transformed the moment we came into a relationship with Christ. However, there is an ongoing process of being changed (transformed).

The good (being obedient) that is done is acceptable to God, and it becomes perfect to God even though we are not perfect. He knows the heart of every person. Why did God call David a man after His own heart (1 Samuel 13:14, Acts 13:22)  when David had sex with another man's wife and had the man killed (2 Samuel, chapter 11). Please don’t be like some people whose lifestyles were not according to God’s standards and they would say: “God knows my heart.”

That’s a copout! David covered his sin but he finally confessed (Psalm 51).

As you start the year of 2023, let the Spirit of God have control.

Partial lyrics from Yolanda Adams song:

Is your all on the alter of sacrifice?

Is it laid?

Your heart does the Spirit control?

Now, you can only, you can only be blessed

And have peace and sweet rest

After you have yielded unto the Lord

Your body and your soul

Have a prosperous 2023!
