Be Careful Who You Follow 3-30-25

Our Tuesday morning Bible study is studying the deception of false teachers in 2 Peter, who lead people astray for their personal through manipulation, and their charismatic charm.

Some people had good testimony and were told that they were going to preach, because of what seemed to be a powerful testimony aroused their emotions.

From my understanding of being under the leadership of a pastor who was once in the music field, many others in Gospel entertainment also became pastors.

That seems to be the going thing in today’s time. Some of these people have either missed their calling, or they jumped ahead of themselves, which causes setbacks. Why am I saying this? Spiritual growth is a process, and it takes time. But grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ (2 Peter 3:18), it’s the same with the natural people.

Fast forwarding to our era where many pastors are national singers, and some their doctrinal beliefs do not line up with the Word of God. Just recently, a well known pastor was exposed for manipulating and controlling people by using forceful tactics to get more money. He used an Old Testament scripture that is not a principle for today.

Caution! Everything in the Old Testament is not for the church, it was for the Nation of Israel. For instance, ceremonial and dietary laws were abolished under the new and better covenant.

The Word of God lets us know in scripture that we are now under grace and not the law. Not that the law is not good, but some of the laws are not for today- the law is good if we use it lawfully (1 Timothy 1:8); used in the proper context.

Dietary laws (clean and unclean animals- Leviticus 11:1-7) are done away with!  But Peter said, “Not so, Lord! For I have never eaten anything common or unclean. And a voice spoke to him again the second time, what God has cleansed you must not call common (Acts 10:14-15). Peter as a Jew was still adhering to the dietary law.

Forbidding to marry and commanding to abstain from foods which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth.  For every creature of God is good, and nothing is to be refused if it is received with thanksgiving;  for it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer (1 Timothy 4:3-5). [If you have a health problem, be careful]

Feasts - And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, “Speak to the children of Israel, and say to them: ‘The feasts of the Lord, which you shall proclaim to be holy convocations, these are My feasts (Leviticus 23:1).

Ceremonial laws are done away with -Law observances were abolished in Christ:

Having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross.  Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it. So let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or sabbaths,  which are a shadow of things to come, but the substance is of Christ (Colossians 2:14-17).

Jesus fulfilled the law, although we have the law of Christ. Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ (Galatians 6:2). Therefore, whoever is still celebrating what Christ took care on the cross, is still in bondage because of a lack of understanding.
