Christians Don’t Have a License to Sin 8-19-24
How Shall We Who Died to Sin, Still Live in It (Romans 6:2)
What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it? Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? Therefore, we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in the newness of life. We have been resurrected into a new life!
For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection, knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin (Romans 6:1-6).
It is not justifiable to use “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). That is not for born-again believers; look at the word have, which is past tense. God’s children do not fall short of His glory. We have the righteousness of Christ and have been justified. When Christ took on our sins, we took on His righteousness. All the sinful charges against us have been dropped, therefore, we can never be judged again (tried) for the same crime. But we are commanded to walk in righteousness.
Moreover, whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified (Romans 8:30). From our perspective we will be glorified when we get to heaven. However, from God’s perspective, it has already happened.
Let’s balance this out- From our human perspective, we fall into sin, but we are not sinners. One cannot be a sinner and a saint at the same time. We have a new nature and a transformation has taken place.
Example: a pig wallows in the nasty hog pen because that is his nature, but born-again believers should be different because we have a new nature.
Transformation: a caterpillar is transformed into a butterfly; once the transformation takes place, the caterpillar can never be a butterfly again. This is called metamorphosis.
Internet: a change of the form or nature of a thing or person into a completely different one, by natural or supernatural means.
We are commanded to walk in righteousness: Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in the lusts thereof. Neither yield your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God. For sin shall not have dominion over you: for you are not under the law, but under grace. Sin should not reign in our mortal bodies (Romans 6:12-14). Sin should not have power over our bodies.
The Word of God tells us to mortify (kill it) the flesh. Therefore, put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry (Colossians 3:5).
What about those who say, “The Lord knows my heart” That’s a “cop-out.” Everybody should know that the Lord knows their heart. Internet: When someone takes the easy way out to avoid a challenging situation or makes excuses, that's considered a cop-out3.
Let’s kill our flesh!
