Worship is Not Just Singing, it’s a Demonstration of Your Love for Jesus in How You Live Your Life
This message is for those who think they are worshiping God in Spirit and in truth. Perhaps they don’t understand what true worship is. Actually, it is all about God and not focusing on oneself. The whole purpose for anything we do, is for God to be glorified.
Many people enjoy music more than the Word of God, and they get their “quote on quote” praise on. For instance, when there is a gospel concert, many times, more people show up to see the artist perform, than the number that attend a regular church service. Emotions are okay if you understand the Word, However if the music makes you feel good, that is the wrong mindset.
Many people attend services where the musicians are on stage; it’s dark and there is a smoke screen that reminds me of the night clubs I frequented and it would put you in a mood that affected emotions. The music in some churches and nightclubs is so loud, it could eventually cause a hearing problem.
My experience is showmanship, entertainment, and one group may be competing against another. And, Lord knows, they are dressed to the tee! Very well dressed and fashionable, as or as if they were at a formal event.
When there is a genuine love for Christ the Word of God will have preeminence (first place) over everything. Then emotions won’t overtake anyone, because emotions come and they go. Emotions can be similar to being high off a min altering substance. From my own experience of alcoholism, the high comes and then the high is over. This is a temporary fix.
After my new birth, I was still emotional by certain songs that touched my heart, until the urge (hunger) for the Word became first place. My emotions began to diminish more and more. If i was going through some kind of trial, my emotions were really high. Don’t get me wrong; I still love to raise my hands and sway my body during praise and worship service, and I love to say amen to the message.
Balance is the key! I don’t scream out, run around the church and so on. That is a distraction that takes the focus off what true worship is. For God is not the author of confusion but of peace, as in all the churches of the saints (1 Corinthians 14:33).
Remember this, the true demonstration of how much one loves Christ is how they live (Matthew 5:16).
Emotions come and go, but The grass withers, the flower fades: but the word of our God shall stand for ever (Isaiah 40:8).
Your Word, O LORD, is everlasting; it is firmly fixed in the heavens (Isaiah 51:6).
Peter reminds us that the truth "endures forever" (1 Peter 1:25). God’s Word is truth.
Please keep in mind what true worship is.
