It’s Not How Much Scripture You Know, It’s How Much Scripture You Live 10-10-24
Living the Word, Not Just Talking it
Have you heard people saying: “You gotta walk the walk as well as talk the talk?’ That is biblically connected. Here’s what I mean: When people say one thing and they are living another way, there is no light.
You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men. You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven (Matthew 5:13-16).
That’s what hypocrites do! Example: The pharisees knew the law of Moses, but there was no evidence. For instance, they devoured the widows houses.
In Matthew 23:14, when Jesus accuses the Pharisees of "devouring widows' houses", he is denouncing their exploitation of vulnerable individuals, particularly widows1. This phrase metaphorically implies the seizing of property or finances from helpless widows, leaving them impoverished1. The Pharisees would attach themselves to widows, win them over by flattery and fraud, and persuade them to assist them with their substance to the ruin of their fortunes2
The word "houses" is used here to denote "property" or possessions of any kind3. The phrase means that the Pharisees take away or get possession of the property of widows by improper arts and pretences3.
Jesus criticized the Pharisees and teachers of the Law, saying they were experts in the Law of Moses but did not follow their own teachings. They were considered children of hell because they rejected God's provision for salvation and focused on their own righteous deeds123.
Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you travel land and sea to win one proselyte, and when he is won, you make him twice as much a son of hell as yourselves (Matthew 23:15).
People are going to hell through the church; they profess to be saved, but their hearts have not been changed. On that note, that’s why the church is not in those who say the church is in them.
Do you want a new heart? God will give it to you! But you must realize that you're a hypocrite, or that you have been "playing" church. “Get right with God and do it now; get right with God, He will show you how. Get right with God, get right, get right with God.”
